Director, creator, mentor and Artistic Director of Replacement Theatre

Director, creator and mentor Maiko Yamamoto received the prestigious Siminovitch Prize for Directing in 2019 with James Long, her creative partner at Theatre Replacement. The company’s work focuses on new, experimental and intercultural performances that challenge ways of using content and staging materials. Yamamoto will discuss her intensive collaborative process for devising experimental theatre, especially works that are developed for theatre festivals.

This fall, the Belfry@UVic Series at UVic’s Department of Theatre has moved online for Zoom conversations with Canadian theatre artists. Now in its third year, this amazing collaboration with The Belfry Theatre connects our students with playwrights, directors, designers, actors and more. Conversations will be hosted by Dr. Sasha Kovacs, a theatre history professor and practicing artist.
