Peter N' Chris and
The Mystery of the Hungry Heart Motel

Spotlight On Alumni*

October 11 – 20, 2012
With Sign Language Interpretation: October 20 @ 2pm

Produced by Peter N’ Chris
Written and Performed by
Chris Wilson (BFA ‘08) and
Peter Carlone (BFA ‘08)

Based on whodunit detective stories like The Hardy Boys and horror movies like The Shining, this hysterical spoof places our hilarious heroes in the thick of a series of murders at a seedy roadside motel. But who could the murderer be?  Okay, the answer is the motel manager – but that’s not the real mystery. Maybe the mystery is why their mattresses are so dirty? Or what this dynamic duo might learn about themselves when they check in? If they ever check out!

This physical comedy team of alumni from 2008 returns to the Phoenix following a trail of awards and acclaim from performances at Second City, and SketchFests and Fringe festivals across the country. This summer, they were nominated for the Comedy Network's Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe. Their harebrained sense of humour – which pays homage to pop culture while pushing everyday life into complete absurdity – has earned them a cult following in the festival world. Welcome back guys!

* The Spotlight on Alumni program invites our graduates to present their current work at the Phoenix Theatre.

Media & Reviews

Culture Vulture Victoria Magazine: Review

"The humour is off-beat... the script overflows with hilarious lines that can be easy to miss in the fast-paced excitement of it all...the sheer inventiveness of the show is entertaining in and of itself."
Erin Anderson, posted October 12, 2012

CBC On the Island: Review

"Lauugh out-loud funny. It's like a live action Bugs Bunny cartoon... Although it is scripted, it comes at the audience at a thousand miles an hour... Super fun. Go and see it. It's a riot, it really is."

Times Colonist: Review

"Comedy, such a fragile thing, is notoriously difficult to do well. That Vancouver's Peter n' Chris succeed so cleverly is a testament to their considerable talents... Peter n' Chris are clever with physical humour ...Their honed comic timing is impressive."
Adrian Chamberlain, October 13, 2012

Janis La Couvée Theatre Blog: Review

"Fine tuned to perfection, and benefiting from effective transitions, incredible physical comedy and a well-written story arc, the performers display their considerable talent from the very beginning.... Nor is it all laughs – a scene where Mabel and Gene,... morph back and forth into Carlone and Wilson slow dancing, is, by turns, tender and wistful, with just the right hint of male bravado to ground it.
