General Information

The Department of Writing is situated in the Fine Arts Building, which also houses the Department of Art History & Visual Studies, the Fine Arts administrative offices and the Studios for Integrated Media. It is one of five departments in the Faculty of Fine Arts along with visual arts, art history & visual studies, theatre and the School of Music. Writing has a faculty of nine practicing writer-teachers, nine sessional instructors, about 300 undergraduate students, and eleven graduate students.

The University of Victoria has exceptional music and theatre facilities, two art galleries, excellent athletic facilities, large computer facilities, libraries, a slide library, health services, a day care centre and a movie theatre. Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and enjoys the most temperate climate in Canada. The sea and unspoiled wilderness are easily accessible, as are the large metropolitan centres of Vancouver and Seattle.
