Areas of Research & Creative Activity



A playwright, teacher, and actor, Karen Lee Pickett has 20 years experience as a theatre artist, and has appeared in regional theatre in the US and Canada, as well as touring in Europe.

She has led writing workshops for Intrepid Theatre, the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Center, and South Park Family School. Her plays Yardsale and I Thee Wed  both received the Best New Play award at the Victoria Fringe. I Thee Wed has also toured to Toronto, the Dublin International Gay Theatre Festival, and the Vancouver Fringe. The Cursed Cabaret of Kelowna Day Taylor, a musical she co-wrote with Brooke Maxwell, received its premiere with Giggling Iguana Productions last Hallowe'en. Her play Dogged will premiere in the fall of 2012.

Karen was a member of the Amherst Writers & Artists group Manhattan Writers for a number of years, and is a certified AWA affiliate. She currently leads AWA workshops through Fernwood Writers Workshop.
