Creative nonfiction.

Hannalora Leavitt’s first human-interest and community features appeared in small-town BC newspaper and magazine publications starting in the early 1990s.

She’s volunteered as newsletter editor for a provincial, non-profit advocacy organization as well as having participated at the board level on several local, provincial and national nonprofit organizations representing the interests of persons with disabilities.

She worked in the K-12 education system locally and is a strong literacy advocate. She writes a fun blog for kids to promote awareness about guide dogs for the blind and visually impaired.

Her current work is a memoir, Eyes Wide Open: Living Faster than I Can See, a collection of personal essays about living with blindness and what it really takes to build a life of meaning from the limited opportunities in the margins. It is from this unique vantage point that she surveys the experience of the blindness lifestyle and its many cultural implications.
