Leah Callen

B.F.A. (UVic), M.F.A. (UVic)

Areas of Research & Creative Activity

Drama, screenwriting, poetry.

Leah just graduated with distinction from UVic where she won the Keith and Shirley Wagner Prize for Writing in 2012. For the past year she worked as a theatre critic for The Coastal Spectator and recently for CVV magazine.

She also studied French and Italian at UVic, receiving a Dorothy and Ernest Ayton Memorial Scholarship. This led to an espresso addiction this summer in Paris and Rome.

Before UVic, Leah worked behind the scenes in a background casting agency in Vancouver. In 2003, her poem Funeral won the annual poetry prize from the North Shore Writers’ Association.┬áThe theatre has always played a role in Leah’s life; she has studied both song and dance. And she is a silent film freak.

Leah’s scripts and poems focus on the human condition with the lens of magical realism.
