Brief Biography

Todd Lambeth is a visual artist living in Victoria, British Columbia.  Todd studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and graduated with an Associate of the Ontario College of Art diploma with honours in 1991.  In 2008 he received an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Victoria.  Throughout his career, Todd has exhibited across Canada in both commercial galleries and artist-run centres.  He has been a recipient of both provincial and federal grants, and one can find his work represented internationally in both private and corporate collections.

A significant component of Todd’s artistic production over the past several years has dealt with the paradoxical properties of painting as being both surface and object.  In his paintings Todd employs the use of trompe-l’oeil techniques that present illusionistic, three-dimensional space, juxtaposed with flat graphic modes of painting that emphasize the formal properties of structure and design.  In addition to his painting practice Todd experiments with digital collage where he appropriates imagery from the Internet, creating works that bridge the gap between high and low art.

Todd has been a sessional instructor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of Victoria since 2008, where he teaches drawing and painting.
