The Phoenix Theatre has two theatre spaces on which to present mainstage plays. The theatre will be listed with the information on the play you are interested in. Click on the theatre diagram to see detailed seating plans.

Roger Bishop

Roger J. Bishop served Victoria College and the University of Victoria from 1945 to 1971. A longtime member of the English department, his efforts led to the establishment of the theatre division.

 

Chief Dan George

Chief Dan George (1899 - 1981) was chief of the Salish Band in Burrard Inlet, BC. He became Canada's most distinguished indigenous actor, starring in films such as Little Big Man (1970). He was also a stage actor, longshoreman, musician, lecturer and poet.


The Department of Theatre is housed in the Phoenix building located on the southwest of the UVic campus. Constructed in 1982, the Phoenix building is considered to be one of the finest teaching and performance facilities in Canada.
