How to Apply

All students interested in applying, transfering or returning to the Department of Theatre must submit their application using the online UVic applicaton system prior to the March 15, 2018. deadline. See below for details about the application process.

  • Current UVic students: If you wish to transfer to Theatre from another UVic department as a current UVic student who is registered in at least one credited course in this academic year.
  • Returning students: Students that have previously been accepted to the Department of Theatre and completed at least one credited course in the past, but are not currently registered in this academic year.
  • Transfer students: Students from other universities or colleges institutions can learn more information about transfer admission requirements. Please note that you will need to supply official transcripts from your institution. Transfer students wishing to attain 2nd-year status in the Acting program may be contacted about an audition date (TBA in April) once their application has been received.

NOTE: Students with a current average of 85% or higher in high school courses will be offered a conditional acceptance, pending submission of their Supporting Documents to Theatre by February 28 and their final grades.

Preparation for the application process:

Students interested in applying to the Department of Theatre must submit their application to UVic, as well as two supporting documents. Portfolio examples can also be submitted directly to the Department (see link below) if the student wishes, but are not required.

REQUIRED: Supporting Documents:

  • A resume: Please outline any previous theatre training and experiences as well as non-theatre related volunteer activities, awards, honours, hobbies and interests.
  • A 500 word essay: Why do you wish to pursue your theatre education at the University of Victoria?

Note: The online application system allows you to submit your UVic application after you have filled in the required questions and completed payment. You can save, return, and edit your information any time prior to submitting it. Supporting documents can be uploaded when you originally submit your application – or they can be uploaded any time afterwards – as long as they are received prior to the February 28 deadline. Updated or revised documents can be re-uploaded by requesting this option within the application.

OPTIONAL: Portfolio Examples
Digital examples of a portfolio, or any work that you feel may enhance your application, may include:

  • digital recording of acting scene or monologue (link to YouTube or Vimeo post)
  • documentation of drawings, paintings or sculptural work (JPG for uploading or link to image viewing website like Flicker or Google Photos)
  • applied theatre workshop or lesson plan (PDF for uploading)
  • stage manager's prompt script (PDF for uploading)
  • photographs of sewing projects (JPG for uploading or link to image viewing website)
  • directorial concept for a play, either previously directed or as you would like to direct it. (PDF for uploading)
