Brief Biography
Michael has worked extensively in the theatre for over forty years as an actor, director and playwright. He has been teaching theatre for fifteen years, including numerous workshops in acting, directing and playwriting throughout the province. He has worked as a theatre festival adjudicator, a juror in the Canadian National Playwriting Competition, a theatre administrator, a set designer, and has served on the board of numerous arts organizations including a term as President of the Federation of BC Writers.
The author of a number of plays, Michael is currently an MFA candidate in Playwriting working under the supervision of Joan MacLeod. His play, In Their Nightgowns, Dancing, was published in 2005 by UNBC Press. It explores the stories of two Canadian immigrants through their involvement in the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.
He holds a BA in English Literature (Minor in History) from UNBC and a Teaching Diploma from SFU’s Professional Development Program.
He is also a published poet, has performed his work extensively with a jazz ensemble, and was a National finalist in the CBC’s 2006 Poetry Face-Off.
