Brief Biography

Karla holds a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, and uses many of the management skills she developed practising law in her current position as Head of Wardrobe. While she remains a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, her heart is set firmly in the Theatre. Karla’s professional experience includes two years at The Stratford Festival, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1994 Commonwealth Games, and construction work on the original Toronto production of Phantom of the Opera. In addition, she has worked at Sunshine Theatre in Kelowna, and is hired regularly to serve, in various wardrobe positions, on films being produced in Vancouver and Victoria. From 1999 to 2001, Karla spent every summer as Wardrobe Manager at The Banff Centre for the Arts.

Karla joined the Department of Theatre in 1990 as Head of Wardrobe and educator in the areas of costume construction, wardrobe management, and arts management. Her special interests are costume history and reproduction of period costume. An active member of many Departmental committees, Karla is currently Chair of the Personal Safety Committee.
