The Edge of Creativity
UVic’s Faculty of Fine Arts is an acknowledged leader in arts knowledge and creative practice. With creativity and culture recognized as one of UVic’s core research strengths, our five departments feature world-renowned, award-winning researchers with unparalleled skills in knowledge creation and use, as well as fine and performing arts training.
Specializations
Arts knowledge is integral to the Fine Arts at UVic. Our focus on dynamic learning — anchored by purpose-built facilities for our departments of Art History & Visual Studies, School of Music, Theatre, Visual Arts and Writing — offers an extraordinary environment for artistic expression and the integration of research and education. Our creative activities resonate far and wide for faculty, students, guest artists and scholars.
Impact
Fine Arts research and creative production has a demonstrated impact in areas of social responsibility, including aging and wellness, gender and identity, and applied theatre, among others. Our infrastructure includes a new digital fabrication lab, digital audio lab, CFI-funded Hi-Def Story Incubator Laboratory, Studios for Integrated Media, and designation as Canada’s only All-Steinway School. We are responsive to student and industry demands, and actively seek out new opportunities for partnerships that enhance innovation, engage with community partners, mobilize knowledge in society, and support entrepreneurship.
