Welcome to the University of Victoria Symphony Orchestra (UViSO).
For the 2020/21 academic year and concert season, we are closely collaborating with musicians, administrators and technology excerpts to develop a safe, exciting and unique experience for players and audiences.
After an exclusively online Fall term, the orchestra returned to face-to-face rehearsals with February 2021 under carefully considered health protocols that involve a reduced number of rehearsals, distanced seating and an appropriately adjusted instrumentation.
There are no public concerts this term, we will share two performances vie streaming. One, recorded on March 1, will be aired on March 28 and will feature transcriptions from Franz Schubert’s Rosamunde. The second will be recorded on April 1, aired on April 11, and will feature Mozart: Clarinet Concerto K. 622 with Concerto Winner Alex Chernate, Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf with Benjamin Butterfield as narrator, and Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
We are hopeful that rehearsals will be back to normal by Fall 2022. Audition materials and procedures for auditions in September will be available by July. UVic students who are not enrolled in the School of Music are welcome to audition; please register by email to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, in addition to closely monitoring the School of Music’s website and this one.
