Hello everyone,

Please have a careful look over this new schedule. I have tried to spread out the opportunities amongst everyone, taking into account individual interests.

Revised Flute MC Schedule 2017-18

First term focus: Alexander Technique with Johanna Godliman

6 September: Introductions, review syllabus and enjoy ‘tea time’ Victoria style at Murchies (my treat). Meet there at 230 pm.

13 September Alexander technique lessons begin! Wear comfortable clothing and bring your flutes AND the 24 Petite Melodies by Moyse (performers on #1 in 24 Petite Melodies: Charmaine, Rhiannon)

20 September AT (#2 melody Charlie, Alli)

4 October AT (#4 melody Taya, Jessica)

*Saturday 14 October Faculty chamber concert 8 pm; all flute students expected to attend*

18 October Special public masterclass beginning at 1230 (runs until regular time of 220) Solo repertoire with piano (performers: Rhiannon, Jamie, Monica, Charlie)

*18 November Saturday SPECIAL GUEST CLASS (in afternoon) with Dr. Michelle Cheramy professor of flute at Memorial University (performers: Charmaine, Jessica, Rhiannon, Alanna) and details TBA) Guest trio recital in evening at 8 pm: Trinitas Chamber Ensemble (Michelle Cheramy, flute, Phil Roberts, piano, Nathan Cook, cello) in a program of contemporary chamber music that dips its toes into the world of jazz. Featuring works by Nikolai Kapustin, Astor Piazzola and Lowell Liebermann*

7 Feb Mock orchestral audition today from 12-220 in B071. All students will observe all auditions. Specific audition schedule TBA. Please note: written (preferably 500- 750 word) self-assessment of audition process due beginning of next masterclass. Within your assessment, consider these specific questions:

  1. What went especially well, in your view?
  2. What were the specific musical weaknesses you encountered, and what would you do differently next time to improve those weak areas?
  3. What did you learn about yourself from this audition experience, and how might you apply this new self-knowledge going forward?

3 March Saturday Guest flutist from Germany and former NFA Baroque flute competition winner Teddie Hwang. Master class Saturday 3 March 10 am-1145 (performers Alanna, Jamie, Alli, Monica). Guest solo recital beginning at noon*

7 March no class today; instead attend special guest class on 3 March with Ms. Hwang
