Recording & Dubbing Policies

  1. Recitals and concerts that are recorded automatically include – faculty, guest artist, credit/degree, class/studio, Tuesdaymusic and Fridaymusics.  Any other concerts will not be automatically recorded unless a request is made through the music office at least 10 working days prior to the recital date.  Please refer to the section below for all other recording requests.
  2. Faculty, students and guest artists may request a copy of their recitals by submitting an “Application for Reproduction of Recorded Performance” form, available from the School of Music office.  Requests should be made at a minimum of 3 working days prior to the recital date.
  3. All automatically recorded recitals, excluding Tuesdaymusic and Fridaymusic recitals, are archived and available for listening in the Music and Audio department of the Macpherson Library.  Allow a minimum of five working days for processing before recordings become available for listening.

 

Private Recording: P.T Young Recital Hall

  1. Private recordings are divided into three specific categories: 1) private recital/concert recording 2) audition recordings 3) “for release” session recordings

    1. Private recital/concert recordings is for recitals held by members of the community outside of the School of Music or by School of Music students where the recital is not for credit or part of a degree program. 
    2. Audition recording is a category reserved for School of Music students or Faculty members wishing to make recordings as part of an audition, competition or academic application process.  It is understood that these recordings are not to be used for purposes other than those set out above and may not be used for commercial release.
    3. “For release” session recordings are for those individuals wishing to make a recording for the purpose of a commercial release.

  2. All Private Recordings are subject to an Engineering Services Fee outlined below.
  3. Recital Hall bookings must be organized through the School of Music Office and are subject to the Schools terms of use and rates.
  4. Audition, application or recording project enquires should be directed to kmcnally@uvic.ca or 472-5628.

 

Engineering Services Fees:

Fees do not apply to any automatically recorded recitals/concerts

Recital/Concert recording ... $20/hr

  • includes an edited digital master in CD format
  • DVD-R data backups can be provided at a per disc price of $10.00
  • additional CD copies are available at a per disc price of $5.00
  • additional dubbing or post-production time is calculated at the $20/hr rate

Audition recording (UVic Students & Faculty) ... $10/hr

  • includes an edited digital master in CD format
  • additional CD copies are available at a per disc price of $10.00
  • additional dubbing or post-production time is calculated at the $10/hr rate

“For Release” recording ... $500/day

  • includes all engineering services and equipment (recording, editing and mastering), a digital master in CD format and all required data back-ups
