Steinway & UVic
Celebrating 12 years as an all-Steinway School
The UVic School of Music became Canada’s very first all-Steinway school in 2008 when we acquired 63 new Steinway pianos — 49 uprights for practice rooms and faculty offices, 13 grand pianos for the teaching faculty and rehearsal halls, and a Steinway Concert Grand for the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall. Our students, faculty, guest performers and concert goers have been appreciating the beauty and quality of these incredible instruments ever since.
To celebrate, the School of Music invites you to join us for a special series of concerts showcasing our Steinway concert grand pianos, as well as guest talks and unique Steinway experiences. Proceeds from this series of events will benefit our Steinway Legacy Fund, dedicated to the enhancement and expansion of our valuable family of instruments.

The legacy continues
Our students are learning and performing on the very best pianos available, and the students who use these pianos will soon become the premier Canadian artists of their generation. As you can imagine, these instruments require ongoing repairs, maintenance and replacement, and as our department expands, so does our family of Steinway pianos. All donations received during this celebration will benefit our Steinway Legacy Fund, dedicated to the enhancement and expansion of our instruments.
Donations may be made in person at any one of our Steinway Celebration events and online.
The difference a Steinway can make
Playing a beautiful instrument can build up one’s sense of musicianship and self-confidence . . . instead of fighting the piano to produce the dynamics and tone I want, the Steinways are responsive and work with me to bring the music to life. When I’m not worrying about whether or not the next note is going to sound properly, my mind is more relaxed and free to think about the shape of phrases, voicings and the overall character of the piece. A beautiful piano allows me to be a musician, instead of a technician.
