UVic Wind Symphony: Beauty Broken

Join the UVic Wind Symphony for an evening of powerful and evocative music that delves into beauty’s multifaceted nature through art, personal experience, and vivid imagery. The concert features Nicole Piunno’s Beauty Broken, Peter Meechan’s Each Life Converges, and James David’s All Dark is Now No More. A special highlight is the world premiere of a commissioned piece by UVic composition Master’s student Halle Patton, crafted exclusively for this performance. The evening crescendos with an electrifying performance by UVic alumnus and saxophonist Alexander Richards, bringing Joel Love’s enchanting Solace to life in a stunning finale.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dr. Alexander Richards is an accomplished saxophonist and pedagogue, performing across Canada, the U.S., and Europe. He has appeared as a soloist with the UVic Wind Symphony, the University of Minnesota Wind Ensemble, and the University of North Texas. Alexander’s recital engagements include prestigious events like the Darmstadt International Musikinstitut and the Texas Music Educators Association.
Dedicated to contemporary saxophone music, Alexander has commissioned and premiered numerous works, including chamber pieces and electroacoustic compositions. His latest focus is on new solo works for the sopranino saxophone, with a commission featured on an upcoming Naxos album. He holds degrees from the University of Victoria, the University of Minnesota, and the University of North Texas, studying under notable mentors like Dr. Eugene Rousseau. His students have achieved significant competition successes and recognition as Texas All-State instrumentalists.
