After a highly successful combined first concert last year, the UVic Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra perform together again to open our ensemble concert season. The program takes a modern approach to predictable and familiar musical ideas and genres, from near and far. The Wind Symphony will perform works by Omar Thomas, Jonathan Dagenais, Alfred Reed, and a world premiere by UVic School of Music Education student Nishant Amatya.
The School of Music is thrilled to welcome Giuseppe Pietraroia, Conductor-in-Residence for both Pacific Opera Victoria and the Victoria Symphony, to conduct the UVic Symphony Orchestra this year. They will perform Ottorino Respighi’s Antiche arie e danze (Ancient airs and dances) Suites Nos. 1 and 2.
