Join the UVic Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Giuseppe Pietraroia, for a captivating evening of music that blends drama, passion, and rhythmic vitality. The program opens with the overture to Franz Schubert’s opera Fierabras, a piece filled with heroic energy and lyrical charm that sets the stage for a journey through musical storytelling.
Next, prepare to be swept away by the emotional depth and virtuosity of Concerto winner, Jiran Miao performing Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor, op. 15 with the orchestra. A masterpiece of the Romantic era, this concerto’s powerful orchestral textures and intricate piano passages will take you on a journey from turbulent passion to serene introspection. Gloria is a fourth-year piano student at UVic studying under esteemed pianist Arthur Rowe.
The concert concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s lively Slavonic Dances, Op. 72. Inspired by the folk traditions of Dvořák’s homeland, these dances brim with infectious rhythms, vibrant melodies, and the spirit of Czech folk music, promising a joyous and exuberant finale to the evening.
