Plus a collaborative performance with UVic’s African Music Ensemble lead by Jordan Hanson, guest percussionist Naby Camara, and the orchestra.
Naby Camara, master balafon (gourd-resonated xylophone) player from Guinea, West Africa, is a two-time recipient of the Juno Award for best Global Album. He is one of the leading balafon players in the world and is considered ground-breaking in his ability to mix traditional balafon with many other styles of music. In Guinea he was the principle soloist for the national ensemble, and has toured the world playing festival stages for the past three decades.
With a bell-like voice described as bright, clear, and plangent, mezzo-soprano Cassidy Stahr is gaining local recognition, performing in genres from classical and early music to opera and contemporary. She is in her final year of study at UVic (BMus, Performance) with Susan Young.
