The Singer-Songwriter with Hawksley Workman

Hawksley Workman, Canadian singer-songwriter

Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Hawksley Workman, will give a short performance demonstrating his unique song-writing style followed by a Q&A about his song-writing process and techniques. The discussion will delve into Hawksley’s approaches to cultivating melodic surprise, colour and contrast, harmonic contour and form, and how to inject lyrics with drama and conflict.

Student singer-songwriters from the UVic School of Music will then have the opportunity to perform their original songs for Hawksley and the audience followed by dialogue about their own creative process, with Hawksley offering encouraging and constructive critique.



ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hawksley Workman is a JUNO Award-winning and Gold Record certified singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Since his ground-breaking self-produced indie debut For Him and The Girls (1999) through to chart-topping singles of 2020, Hawksley has careened between major label international smash hits to Canadiana-soaked indie releases. Boasting a catalogue of 17 solo records, Hawksley’s genre defying style strings together folk, chart pop and irrepressible cabaret. Stories of weather, love, heartbreak, and more than a few tales of end-times have a garnered Hawksley a league of devoted fans.
