Sounds Canadian/Canadian Sounds: An evening with Amy King

November 11, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

An evening with Amy King, music producer & engineer, Grant Avenue Studios (Hamilton, ON)

Join music producer and recording engineer Amy King for a discussion about her recording work at the legendary Grant Avenue Studios, hear music from her extensive discography, which includes the iconic Canadian folk musician, Gordon Lightfoot, and participate in a moderated Q&A that explores the question, “Is there a Canadian Sound?”

Born in Newfoundland and trained as a pianist, Amy King has been music producer and recording engineer since 2002 at Grant Avenue Studios in Hamilton, which was founded by Bob and Daniel Lanois in 1976. She has been nominated and awarded a number of regional music and arts awards, most recently being honoured with the 2019 City of Hamilton Arts Award (music category). Amy has been very active in bringing awareness to the importance of music in the community, offering gratis studio time to associations such as “An Instrument for Every Child,” “Hamilton Out of the Cold,” multiple school programs, as well as providing gratis recording to complete fund-raising albums in support of “Gracenotes Debbie Clause Recording Bursary,” “Hamilton Neighbour to Neighbour,” and a project in support of “The Syrian Newcomers Fund.”

Co-hosted by Kirk McNally (University of Victoria) and Dr. Amandine Pras (University of Lethbridge)
