SALT New Music Festival: Tsilumos Ensemble

The SALT New Music Festival brings together world-renowned Canadian and international composers and performers with students of contemporary music in a series of concerts, workshops and discussions. Organized by Tsilumos—a new music ensemble based in Victoria—SALT explores new musical experiences and possibilities by presenting music that is innovative, challenging and diverse. This year’s festival highlights critically acclaimed guests, UVic School of Music faculty, and UVic alumni including members of the Victoria Composers Collective.

A concert of new compositions by a new generation of composers, performed by featured soloists: Joanna Hood (viola), Liam Hockley (clarinet), Michael Dias, Nolan Krell, and Ajtony Csaba.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 7 | 7 PM
Quasar Saxophone Quartet
Known for their energy and bold innovation, the four members of Quasar have been exploring the innumerable facets of musical creation since the group’s founding in 1994. Based in Montreal, the group’s ventures include instrumental music, improvisation, and electronics. This concert will feature a new work for saxophone quartet by Wolf Edwards.

The Tsilumos Ensemble features Joanna Hood (viola), Marie-Chantal Leclair (saxophone), Jean-Marc Bouchard (saxophone), Michael Dias (guitar), David Shively (percussion), Liam Hockley (clarinet), and Nolan Krell (electric guitar).
