Quartet Fest West: Movie and Mozart

Violist Yariv Aloni joins the Lafayette String Quartet in Mozart’s Viola Quintet in G minor, K. 516. You’ll also have to opportunity to view the premiere screening of John Bolton’s new film “Singing Through Generations.” This short film features the LSQ performing Singing Through Generations, co-composed by Nicole Mandryk and Leila Lustig. It was recorded at the First Peoples House and the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at UVic.

Quartet Fest West runs from June 26-July 8 and offers an in-depth study of great chamber music literature with the world-renowned Lafayette String Quartet on the beautiful University of Victoria campus.



ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Formed in 1986 in Detroit, the LAFAYETTE STRING QUARTET comprises its four original female members, a distinct rarity in the classical music world. All members of the LSQ have taught and performed at the UVic School of Music for over 32 years. With more than a dozen albums and a thousand appearances worldwide behind them, the LSQ will retire as an ensemble ­— 2022/23 marks their final season.

YARIV ALONI is the music director of the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra and the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra. He was the founder and music director of the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria for 18 years, former violist of both the Penderecki string quartet and the Aviv piano quartet, and has performed in many concert halls around the world.
