Larry Beckwith: Learning from the journey: A life in music
March 12, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Orion Series in Fine Arts
Larry Beckwith, violinist, educator & artistic director
With Kinza Tyrrell, piano & harpsichord
In this presentation, Larry Beckwith talks about period vs. modern issues of performance practice, and demonstrates, with Kinza Tyrrell, two versions of J.S. Bach’s Sonata in G Major, BWV 1019: first with harpsichord and again on piano. Mr. Beckwith will also speak practically about career opportunities, including the “confluence” of the performance, education, composition, and musicological streams in “real life.”
Artistic Director Larry Beckwith has been a familiar figure on the Toronto music scene for the past three decades. He studied violin and musicology at the University of Toronto and has since performed with most of Toronto’s leading musical organizations including being a CBC producer for Choral Concerts for many years. In 2003, Larry founded Toronto Masque Theatre, which under his leadership has presented over 65 innovative, original programs. Larry has also conducted many shows for Toronto Operetta Theatre and made his Opera in Concert conducting debut in 2015. A passionate educator, Larry runs the celebrated strings and voice classes at Unionville High School and is the conductor of the Mooredale Senior Youth Orchestra.
