ABOUT THE ARTIST
Named one of CBC’s ‘30 Under 30 Classical Musicians’ in 2023, Simon Farintosh is known for his unconventional programming, connecting with audiences by integrating the classical guitar with more contemporary musical forms. Simon began his guitar studies at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, earning his Bachelor of Music at the University of Victoria with Dr. Alexander Dunn and a Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under Rene Izquierdo. He is currently completing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto, focusing on developing a sight-reading method for guitar students.
A decorated performer, Simon has won top prizes in competitions such as the Quebec International Music Competition and the Northwest Guitar Festival. Also an award-winning composer, he received First Prize in the 2022 Ottawa Guitar Society Composition Competition for his piece Distant Light. His debut album Noctuary (2023) features an extended original composition for solo eight-string guitar. Simon joined the UVic School of Music as guitar instructor in 2024.
