I Have Been to Tibet
Ajtony Csaba, piano & electronics
Ajtony Csaba leads the audience on a captivating 60-minute journey, weaving together diverse keyboard repertory from different eras, improvisations, electronic sounds, and evocative live imagery. Drawing inspiration from locations of significant heritage, such as Tibet, Csaba creates an avant-garde music theatre experience rich in storytelling, reminiscent of a travel diary. Upon returning from a transformative journey, he eagerly shares his impressions and responds to the ever-present query: How was it?
Ajtony Csaba is hailed for “sensitivity, providing the listener with a series of exciting discoveries,” “terrific performances,” and “deftly sustained momentum” in music-making. As the Music Director of the Central European Chamber Orchestra (mikamo) in Vienna, he is a frequent guest in concert halls such as Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, the Palace of Arts Budapest, and the Slovak National Radio. His recordings have been used for broadcasts around the world and have appeared under labels such as Extraplatte, Centredisc, musique de notre temps, and Hunnia. Csaba is the co-director of the SALT New Music Festival in Victoria and the artistic director of the NewSpiritMusic concert series in Budapest. Passionate about mentorship, he holds the position of conducting professor at the University of Victoria and regularly leads masterclasses at academic and professional institutions in Europe and North America.
