With Liam Hockley & Max Murray, percussion
Soloist Kevin McFarland brings a unique depth of insight to the sweeping microtonal essays of Radulescu and Sabat, while chamber music of Lou sustains the threads of lyricism and processual advancement in forms both vibrant and engrossing — iterations of McFarland’s creative practice tethering together and reflecting inner and outer frames.

Marc Sabat: Partite Requiem
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kevin McFarland is best known as the founding cellist of the world-renowned JACK Quartet, with whom he traveled across five continents, collaborated with a diverse array of composers, and performed up to seventy concerts a year. After his final appearance with JACK he relocated from New York to Colorado where he now lives with his partner and two dogs. Past guest performances include appearances with the International Contemporary Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, Ensemble Signal, Talea Ensemble, and Wordless Music Orchestra. Kevin’s composition works have been performed by vocalist Abigail Fischer, Hutchins Consort East, and the Deviant Septet. His first published essay appears in Performing Xenakis from Pendragon Press. His current musical focus gravitates around composition, electronic music, and solo and chamber music performances. Kevin holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Eastman School of Music where he studied composition with Robert Morris, David Liptak, Steven Stucky, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, and cello with Steven Doane. He will attend the University of Denver – Lamont School of Music to pursue a Master’s Degree in Music Composition beginning in the fall of 2022.
A concert series rooted in Victoria and Vancouver, Arbour Concerts is a platform dedicated to unbroken, evening-length programs developed in an uncompromising curatorial spirit. Collaboratively calling upon outstanding musicians from the local and international musical community, and drawing its repertoire from a demographically and aesthetically broad range of contemporary musical practices, the series understands concert-programs themselves as essentially composed: the insight of specific performers illuminating a mindfully ordered constellation of works. Embarking on this undertaking with a deep commitment to musical generosity, we welcome you to our programming. Arbour is co-directed by School of Music alumni, Liam Hockley and Max Murray.
