BIOGRAPHIES
Elizabeth Gerow enjoys sharing with her audience the hidden joys and intimacy of
the Art Song. She is a regular guest soloist at the Victoria Edelweiss Club, and annually performs for the University of Victoria’s Germanic and Slavic Studies Departments’ year-end celebration. Elizabeth also has an interest in editing and performing
unpublished music by composers of long ago, and is currently preparing a collection
of songs by Victoria’s own Elinor Dunsmuir (1887–1938). She is a proud recipient
of the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award, where she has had the great
privilege of learning proper editing techniques by preparing and performing two unpublished songs by Josephine Lang (1815–1880) under the supervision of Dr. Harald
Krebs. Elizabeth is in her final year of vocal performance studies with Professor Susan
Young at the University of Victoria.
Aliayta foon-Dancoes currently plays with professional ensembles including the
Victoria Symphony, the Sydney Classical Orchestra and the Galliano Ensemble. A
student at the University of Victoria, in the fall of 2015, she played the Sibelius Violin
Concerto with the University of Victoria Symphony. She is a two-time winner of the
Vancouver Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition; won the 2011 Shields Scholarship in the Vancouver Academy of Music’s Senior Secondary Competition and has
been awarded scholarships to attend the Orford, Tafelmusik, Switzerland’s Astona
Music Academies and Morningside Music Bridge. A keen chamber musician, Aliayta
was a member of a quartet that received first prize in the 2010 Friends of Chamber
Music Senior Competition. Aliayta won first prize in both UVic’s 2014 Bach Competition and the 2015 Concerto Competition. Her violin studies began when she was
four with Alison Sloan, continued with Dr. Walter Mony and Andrew Dawes and she
is now in her third year studying with Ann Elliott-Goldschmid at the University of
Victoria.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Elizabeth Gerow and Aliayta Foon-Dancoes sincerely thank Dr. Harald Krebs and
Prof. Ann Elliott-Goldschmid for their mentorship and support as they worked on
their respective research projects. They would also like to thank the University of
Victoria for the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards, which provide students the amazing opportunity to do research alongside their degree studies.
