Libeslied-Oskar Böhme
Böhme’s Libeslied, composed in 1907, was originally written for solo cornet and orchestra.
It was later reduced for piano accompaniment. The piece offers all of the romantic emotion
found in his Sextet in Eb minor, but distilled down for a soloist.

Five Poems of Emily Dickinson- Jay Rizzetto
This piece places the trumpet in a somewhat unfamiliar scenario with narrator. The poems
are intended to be read in a dramatic manner while the trumpet offers accompaniment
relative to the cadence of the speech.

Prelude No. 2-George Gershwin
Gershwin originally wrote this piece as a “blues lullaby”. The melody itself emphasizes the
flat 7th degree found in the blues scale. The middle section is only related in style to the
opening, providing new thematic material. The opening is repeated, ending with a short
cadenza.

Concerto for Trumpet-John Estacio
John Estacio’s recently written concerto presents the trumpet at both its most declarative
and its most lyrical. The first movement opens with a lyric recitative, followed by a fiery
main theme. The second movement presents a beautiful sombre melody which builds to a
dramatic climax. The third movement offers a traditional rondo form in 6/8, ending with a
flashy cadenza.

Suite from the Monteregian Hills-Morley Calvert
Calvert’s Suite is based on several folk tunes from Quebec. It offers both beautiful and at times quite
funny thematic material. The first movement is a humorous march. The second movement is a
beautiful lament. The third is a jaunty, tongue-in-cheek- waltz. And finally, the fourth movement is a
unique take on the French Christmas carol “Il Est Né”.

Mark Barr is from the class of Professor Merrie Klazek.
This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements
for the Bachelor of Music (Performance) program.
