Description
A trio concert featuring the Sitkovetsky arrangement of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
The Sitkovetsky arrangement of Bach’s Goldberg Variations is a renowned and innovative adaptation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous keyboard work, BWV 988, originally written for harpsichord. The arrangement was created by the Russian violinist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky in 1984 to mark the 300th anniversary of Bach’s birth. This arrangement is often praised for its ability to showcase Bach’s genius in a new light, emphasizing the timeless and adaptable nature of his music.
The string trio version allows for expressive phrasing and dynamic contrasts that are different from those possible on the keyboard. Each instrument in the trio takes on different roles, from leading melodic lines to providing harmonic support, making the piece highly interactive and engaging.
