Description

The first concert of the UVic Wind Symphony and the UVic Symphony Orchestra’s 2024/25 season kicks off another exciting year of collaborations.

With Wind Symphony works by Philip Sparke, Robert Buckley, Thierry Deleruyelle, Sally Greenaway, and a world premiere commission composed by UVic Music Education student Eilish McAree, the UVic Wind Symphony ‘s program celebrates the uninhibited approach these composers have taken in their writing.

The UVic Symphony Orchestra (UViSO) opens the season with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 — a masterpiece that marks a turning point in classical music. Composed during a time of personal turmoil, this work is a testament to Beethoven’s resilience and creative power. The symphony is filled with energetic rhythms, lyrical melodies, and bold harmonies that will captivate your heart and mind.
