Appearing on computer screens and billboards and in magazines and newspapers, photographs fill our world and are part of our everyday life. In this course, you will learn about how this medium has developed since its invention in 1839. It considers technical aspects of photography as well as the types of images created by artists, journalists, and scientists. This course also addresses theoretical questions regarding how we engage with these images. Topics include: travel photography, documentary photographers, Dada, Surrealism, conceptual art, women photographers, Postmodernism, and advertising.
