This course explores the innovations in Italian art and architecture that occurred from the mid-sixteenth century to 1700, a time marked by clashing dogmas of faith, political upheaval, and scientific discovery. We will examine in depth selected works of painting, sculpture, and architecture by artists including Caravaggio, Bernini, and the Carracci.
