The PlayStation VR is a virtual reality headset that functions in tandem with the PlayStation 4 to provide an immersive 360-degree viewing experience. Some games are virtual reality (VR) games, and require the use of the PSVR helmet and special motion-tracking controllers. Other games will work with the PSVR and a regular controller. To arrange a demonstration of how to set up and use the PSVR, visit the equipment cage staff.
The PlayStation VR headset can be booked out via the online booking system and picked up with your key and games. When you are finished using the VR headset, please return it to FIA 238 or (during off hours) place it in the cabinet and return it the next day with your key and games.
Motion Sickness and Eye Strain Warning
Some users may experience motion sickness or eye strain when using the Playstation VR. Be cautious. If you have a serious medical condition, check with your doctor before using the system.
If you start to feel dizzy, nauseous, or unusually hot & sweaty, stop immediately and take a break. Motion sickness can last for several days. Your first time using VR, do not play for more than thirty minutes. With continued usage, your body will become used to the sensation and you will be able to play for longer stretches.
Motion sickness can result from a headset that is not properly calibrated to the user. To calibrate the system press the PS button at the center of the PS4 controller and go to:
[Settings] > [Devices] > [PlayStation VR]
If you have glasses, you can use them with the VR but be careful putting on the headset as glasses can scratch the lens. For instructions on putting on the headset, press the PS button at the center of the PS4 controller and go to:
[Settings] > [Devices] > [PlayStation VR] > [Check How to Put On VR Headset].
A note about games installed on the PS4
As the PSVR runs on the PlayStation 4, PSVR features both system-based and disc-based games. Further confusing matters is that disc-based games must first be partially installed onto the PS4 before they can be played. This means if another student brings in a VR game from the equipment cage or elsewhere and plays it in the game lab, the game will appear to be installed on the PS4, but the game will not be playable without the game disc placed in the PS4.
Below is a complete list of our VR games. For a list of non-VR games, visit our PlayStation 4 page.
