SO YOU WANT TO BOOK THE GAME LAB

The FAIM room is available for student use from 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday (while the building is open). You may book the room for up to three hours, once per day.

There are four steps to each booking:

  1. Book the FAIM room.
  2. Book the cabinet key for disc games (if needed)
  3. Use the FAIM
  4. Return the cabinet key to the Equipment Cage.

1. BOOK THE ROOM

There’s a super-special online booking system here, and only students enrolled in current video courses may access it. Instructions follow:

  • In our menu above, click on “HOW TO BOOK” > “BOOK NOW”.
  • Login with your Netlink ID and password.
  • On the calendar at the top of the screen, click on the day you wish to book.
  • Click the time you wish to start your booking.
  • Under ‘brief description’ enter your name.
  • Choose the time you wish to end your booking.
  • Click on ‘save’ to confirm your booking.

There is a maximum three hours to any booking, but if the room is not booked after you, you are free to stay until the building is closed.

2. BOOK THE CABINET KEY FOR GAME DISCS ( if needed)

Some of our games are digital copies, loaded onto the systems. Some of our games are disc-based, located in the FAIM room cabinet. To use disc games, you must pick-up a cabinet key separately from the Equipment Cage. You will need to visit the equipment cage in FIA 238 with your UVic ONECard to fill out a Media Equipment Borrowing Agreement, and then you will need to watch the tutorials for booking equipment before you can book out equipment. *Please note: unlike most items in the Equipment Cage, keys are booked by the Equipment Cage technician, so there’s no need to book in advance.

3. USE THE FAIM

Once you have booked the room, use your UVic ONECard to access the room. It may not work on your first swipe – wait a minute and try again. If you see a purple light or have other issues, please contact us. Classes that are using the FAIM will be configured with access. Access will be disabled after classes are over.

4. ROOM ETIQUETTE

Please leave the room in the condition you found it, charge and stow controllers, and ensure games are in your possession in their correct cases. Put games back in the cabinet and secure it.

You must return the cabinet key to Fine Arts Equipment Cage on the day following your booking (during their open hours). For example, if you use the game lab Monday night, you must return key on Tuesday morning during the allotted hours.

NEW TO GAMING?

If you have never used a video game console or if you have questions, please speak to the staff in FIA 238 upon booking for instructions and a tour of the lab.
