The goal of the Professional Writing Minor in Journalism and Publishing is to introduce students to professional industry standards and to develop the skills required to succeed as a writer in journalism, publishing or government and corporate communications.
With a faculty busy and productive in the industry, UVic Professional Writing students exchange ideas and work within a real-world environment encompassing all the expected guidelines and deadlines they'll be exposed to upon entering the market place.
The Director of the Professional Writing Minor is David Leach.
The Professional Writing Co-op offers undergraduate students enrolled in the Professional Writing Minor the opportunity to apply their skills and gain paid work experience through the Humanities, Fine Arts and Professional Writing Co-op program.
While the co-op option is not mandatory, it is highly recommended, and priority for admission in certain courses will be given to those students taking the co-op option.
Students must a complete WRIT 102 with a grade of B+ or better, and WRIT 215 and WRIT 216 with an average grade of B+ or better.
