Biography

David grew up in the eighties and nineties on a Saskatchewan family farm. He obtained a BFA in Film & Video Production on scholarship from the University of Regina, and has since been an independent filmmaker, artist, writer, and occasional performer.

He has exhibited across Canada, the United States, and Europe, meanwhile navigating through several genres of work including recurring actor roles on the TV comedy series Corner Gas, serving as Festival Coordinator for Queer City Cinema Biennial International Queer Arts Festival, and four years as Editor of the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative’s independent film magazine Splice.

In 2006 his film Queen City won the Best Documentary award at the Canadian National Youth Film Festival in Ottawa. His 2009 docu-drama Stubblejumper appeared at several international festivals and has been broadcast as part of World AIDS Day programming on OUTtv. David received NFB support for his recent short film Basin, which won a Hall of Fame award at the Magmart Video Under Volcano International Video Art Festival in Naples. It has screened at venues around the world including Hot Docs and Inside Out LGBT Film Festival in Toronto, Festival International du Film d’Environnement in Paris, and Ecofilms Rodos Film & Visual Arts Festival in Rhodes. His newest short documentary Blue premiered at the Antimatter Film Festival in Victoria.
