Landmarks; Photographs

2004-2006

These images were selected from an ongoing photographic survey of Southern Alberta and document the intersection between architecture and landscape.  They examine how economic forces are shaping the region and illustrate the ongoing shift from a rural existence of self-reliance, to an urban lifestyle that is increasingly dependent on non-renewable resources.  I am focusing on the human influences that impact this specific geography: how pursuits such as industrial farming and livestock production, oil and mineral extraction, electrical generation and tourism have all produced their own historical landmarks.
