“I guess one difference between a metaphorical work and an ‘engaged’ work is like the difference between having an experience pointed out to you, and having you ‘undergo’ the experience. Perhaps there is something ‘performative’ about this engaged model. I am not even sure if ‘engaged’ is the right word.
