Allan
Stichbury is a set, lighting and costume designer who has been on faculty
at UVic since 1988. He has worked for theatres across
Canada including both the Stratford and Shaw Festivals. He is the Past
President of Associated Designers of Canada, and has exhibited at both
the 1995 and 1999 Prague Quadrennials, serving as Canada’s commissioner
in 1999. Internationally he has designed the lighting for Mr. Lincoln at
Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., as well as on Broadway.
He has just returned from
Thailand where, under an Orion Fellowship, he taught at Chulalongkorn
University and designed a new Thai play, Sita:
Sriram? at The Arts Theatre, Bangkok. Allan also served as design
Consultant for Traditional Thai Mask Dance at Sala Chalermkrung. He
is currently
consulting on the renovation to the theatre at The Stock Exchange of
Thailand. Stage design (scenic, costumes, and lighting) and contemporary
Canadian theatre are his main areas of specialization.
In addition to his role at
the Department of Theatre, Allan
is serving as the Acting Chair of UVic's Visual Arts department.
