How to Apply:

1. Apply to the University:
Deadline: February 28

  • Note: Grades for current BC secondary students will be sent electronically to UVic Admissions by your school. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Note: If you are already attending UVic and wish to transfer to the Department of Theatre, you MUST complete a Re-registration form through UVic Admissions by February 28.

2. Submit your application package to the Department of Theatre:
Deadline: February 28
All the following components of your application package to the Department of Theatre must be submitted by the deadline.

  • Questionnaire (Adobe PDF form)
  • Resume (incude theatre experience)
  • Two Essay Responses (below)
  • Supporting Material (below)

Essay responses must be in essay format and not more than 500 words each, typed and double-spaced.

a) Why do you wish to pursue your education at the University of Victoria as opposed to another liberal arts university or a professional training school such as the National Theatre School, University of Alberta or Langara College?

b) Name a play that you have read, seen or been involved in that excited you. Specifically, what did you like about the play?

Supporting Material (optional)

Students are invited to submit supplementary material of examples of their work that they feel may enhance their application, including:

  • digital recording of acting scene or monologue
  • documentation of visual art (colour copies or digital images of drawings, paintings or sculptural work)
  • lesson plan for a workshop in applied theatre areas
  • stage manager's prompt script
  • photographs of sewing projects
  • a directorial concept for a play they have either directed or would like to direct
  • writing samples

Note: Materials submitted will be returned ONLY if a stamped self-addressed envelope is provided.

Note: Applicants wishing to enter Theatre/Writing must send a letter expressing their interest in the program to the Writing Department or call 250-721-7306 by the February 28 deadline.

Are you transfering from another university or college?

1. Complete application to University Admissions and Department of Theatre as above.
Applications will not be considered until Undergraduate Admissions and Records Services has received your transcripts of completed courses and courses in progress. Transcripts can be copies, for provisional admission, or official transcripts formal admission.

The Department of Theatre must receive a copy of the transcript at the time of application. 

2. Acting for Transfer Students
Transfer students wishing to apply for advanced standing in the Acting specialization will be required to make an on-campus audition ona weekend in April of the year you apply.

The Department will contact you regarding the date and time of your audition once your Theatre Application Package has been received. Students will be asked to present two contrasting monologues of no more than two minutes each.

3. Theatre/Writing for Transfer Students
Transfer students wishing advanced standing in the Theatre/Writing specialization should review the application process for the Department of Writing and contact the department secretary with any questions at 250-721-7306.
