Computer Music
The field of Computer Music is, by its nature, highly interdisciplinary. It encompasses music, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, psychology, and more. At UVic, we focus on:
- New musical instruments
- Interactive performance
- Improvisation
We are very active in the international computer music community. Our artistic work is balanced by scientific research, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Our Program
Our undergraduate program begins with the study of the interrelationship between music, science, and computers; followed by sound recording and digital audio (using our professional-quality digital music studios), generation and manipulation of sounds using computers, and electroacoustic composition.
Other Programs
If this program sounds interesting, you may also want to check out the Music and Computer Science combined degree program and the Electrical Engineering Computer Music Option.
