Support Us
Our Fine Arts patrons…
- support the education of our students as they learn about Fine Arts in all its aspects: exhibiting, creating, performing, producing and researching,
- enjoy a range of Fine Arts not found anywhere else in Victoria,
- participate in exciting department initiatives such as faculty and student performances and seminars, and - perhaps most importantly -
- help to nurture the next generation of artists in Canada.
But did you know…
- our academic funding does not cover all the costs of our productions,
- we receive no government grants as do local arts organizations,
- we keep our ticket rates deliberately low to remain as accessible as possible to the community, and
- we can give tax receipts for all donations
We therefore appreciate and need donations of any size to help support our students and their work in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
- give online at http://development.uvic.ca
If you are interested in Scholarship and Bursary opportunities to help our Fine Arts students, or if you would like to find out how to leave a gift in your Will, please contact Karen Walker, our Fine Arts Development Officer, at (250) 721-6305. Karen is located in the Fine Arts Building room 225a.

The Margaret Russell Graduate Internship In Curatorial Studies
The Margaret Russell Graduate Internship In Curatorial Studies
The Department of History in Art is pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for first-year Masters students interested in working on a research project relating to modern and contemporary art in the Pacific North West. The award has been established through the generosity of Bill Langlois and Mike Melnyk, who wish to support and encourage the preservation of art created by local BC artists for the future enjoyment of British Columbia. It is named in memory of Mr. Melnyk’s late mother, and a brief bio is available on the UVic website at http://web.uvic.ca/givingtouvic/Donor_Bio/R/Russell_Margaret.php.
The successful applicant will be supervised in the University of Victoria Art collections (UVAC), and work with the Curator of UVAC on an aspect of the UVAC collections, which will be decided upon together. This project will connect the candidate closely to the new (2011) Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies or Graduate Professional Diploma in Cultural Heritage Management.
The internship/award is offered twice a year: once in fall term for $3,500 (it works out to a project of so many hours per term); once in spring term, again $3,500. To apply for this fascinating professional opportunity, please submit a c.v., together with a statement of interest of 500 words, outlining your interest in objects in museums or galleries in Canadian collections to Catherine Harding, Chair, History in Art, at charding@uvic.ca.
The deadline for submissions of interest is June 30, 2011.
